Study Tips for this Exam Season!

With exams coming up soon, it can be stressful trying to study and review all the material you've learned all semester in time for your test. You might feel very overwhelmed and pressured; however, following these simple study tips can help you ace your exams! Here are some simple methods to study, so learn which ones work best for you!

Collaborate with friends

Starting a study group with friends can be extremely beneficial. Working together to understand a certain topic can benefit everyone participating a lot. Your study group can establish a study plan or split up topics for each of you to cover. You can take turns quizzing each other and asking questions about confusing topics.

Utilize class time

If you are confused about a certain topic, asking your teacher for help will be very beneficial. You can review at home, and if you have any questions, ask your teacher. Focusing on review assignments given in class is very important, and taking notes can help as well. Make sure to try your best to actively participate and focus in class without getting distracted. The time you have before exams to review with your teacher is limited, so take advantage of it!

Create a Schedule

Creating a schedule or study plan for your exams can help increase your productivity. This way, you don't have to wait till the last minute to cram to understand a bunch of information. If you space it out, it will make it much easier for you. You will also have a lot of free time to review or ask questions. For example, you can review a new topic each week. This way, you won't be stuck memorizing a bunch of information last minute.

Comfortable Environment

Having a comfortable environment is also very important and can affect your studying a lot. Staying in an environment where you feel like you can focus and stay productive can help you retain information for longer periods of time. It can also help you work more efficiently. Comfortable environments can mean different things for different people. For some, working in a noisy area can actually help them focus more. For others, working in a very quiet area will help more.

Keep a Clean Area

No matter where you are studying, it is very important to keep your area clean. This way you won't be stressed out. It can also help you stay organized more easily. Make sure to declutter and clean up after yourself to increase your productivity levels. Get rid of unnecessary items, and only keep the things that you need. After you finish studying for the day, make sure to put everything back to the way it was.

Practice Tests

Practice tests are a great way to review and revise all the concepts you've learned. I personally recommend doing a practice test before you start studying for your exam. This way it can help you know which concepts you struggle the most on, telling you what you need to review or focus on the most. I also recommend taking another practice test after reviewing all your material, so you can see how much you've improved. It can help you know if there are any topics you still don't understand and need to go over. You can create practice tests, get them from your teacher, or even find plenty online.

Stop Multitasking

Multitasking is probably not the best thing to do when trying to study. Although a lot of students like to do multiple things at once, when preparing for an exam it's important that all your focus is only on one topic. Skipping between topics or doing multiple things at the same time can decrease productivity levels.

Teaching

A good way to test if you've memorized all the content is by teaching other students or peers. When explaining stuff to them, they can ask questions. This can help you dive deeper into the subject and understand it more. Explaining something to people can help you break down difficult topics into simpler ones. If you catch yourself not being able to explain something properly, it probably means you don't understand it well. You will then need to go back and review that topic.

Using these tips and implementing them into your current study plan can help you do well on your exam. The biggest tip of all is to not procrastinate! Provided you start early, you will be able to ace your exams. You got this!
