Hey! So Glad You're Here.

The Union County Library Teen Services Committee (TSC) was formed in 2015 when staff noticed there was a gap in the library services offered to teens in the community.  Originally, there is a staff  representative from each of the four library locations (Main Library in Monroe, Union West Library in Indian Trail, Edwards Memorial Library in Marshville, and the Waxhaw Library) on the committee.  The committee worked with the Teen and Technology Librarian and Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to create monthly contests, events, and display ideas. The library's yearly Summer Reading Program was facilitated by committee members and other staff who are passionate about teen services.

We have come a long way since then! As of 2021, there is a single Teen Advisory Group (TAG) made up of 4-7 staff liaisons across all library departments and locations in addition to 7-9 teens from across Union County. Each year the library recruits teens for the TAG who have specialized skills and interests to make sure that the library is getting input from a wide variety of teens. The group also elects 3 teen officers for a one year term. The teens community representatives work with the library staff and Teen and Technology Librarian to continue to grow and diversify UCL's Teen Services.
