Have you ever been bored at home with nothing to do, yet wanted to turn on your brain gears? Well, this post is for you! These are some fun and simple experiments you can conduct with everyday items most likely found around your house.
PS. Make sure to use safety gear like safety goggles, as well as keep a clean workplace, including tying loose hair up. Remember safety first, then fun!

Instant Ice Trick
What you'll need:
Bottles of purified water
A freezer
A clear glass with ice cubes
A plastic tray to conduct your experiment on
Instructions:
Put water bottles into the freezer for 2 hours (Make sure it isn't frozen solid)
Take out one of the bottles before it fully freezes
Prepare your ice cubes by putting them on the plastic tray
Slowly pour the water from the bottle onto the ice cubes
Instance ice should form!
Reasoning:
After being in the freezer for 2 hours, the state of the water is supercooled. Which means it is below freezing, but is still liquid until it touches a solid like ice in this case. This explains why the water should instantly turn into a solid when in contact with the ice.

Fireproof Balloon (Adult Supervision Advised)
What you'll need:
2 balloons
Water
A candle and matches/lighter
Instructions:
Fill one balloon with air
Fill the second balloon with a bit of water, then blow it up with air
light the candle
First, try the air-filled balloon by holding it over the flame. It should pop right away
Then try the water-filled balloon; it won't pop right away.
Reasoning:
You should notice that the water-filled balloon pops way after the air-filled balloon does. This is because the water in the second balloon absorbs the heat, which keeps the rubber cool for a longer time before bursting.

Invisible Ink Messages
What you'll need:
Lemon juice
Cotton swab
White paper
A lamp or an iron
Instructions:
Soak the cotton swab in lemon juice
Write your message on the white paper
Let it dry
Put the paper close to a warm lamp or have an adult guide you with an iron.
A message should appear
Reasoning:
Lemon juice is made of a variety of sugars, acids, and water. When you heat up the lemon juice, it causes the sugars to react with the oxygen in the air, which is called oxidation. This leads to the brown color showing up where the lemon juice originally was.

Volcano Eruption
What you'll need:
Baking soda
Vinegar
Dish soap
Food coloring
A cup
Instructions:
Place the cup in a tray to prevent messes
Add a spoonful of your baking soda, dish soap, and food coloring to your cup
Pour Vinegar on top
Watch the mixture foam up and rise like a volcano
Reasoning:
The volcano experiment is a classic, but fun one. The vinegar reacts with the baking soda to create carbon dioxide gas, which is all the foam and fizz you should see after the experiment.
Science is all around us and even in your home! All it takes is your curiosity and some readily available materials. Anyone can become a scientist, even from their kitchen or living room!
