The Importance of the Student Section: Why Showing Up Matters!

The Football Student Section

If you love a good game of football and being around other people who do, this is the perfect way to spend your time on Friday nights! It is also fun to dress up, as most football student sections will have themes to boost the excitement. I personally love the themes "USA" or "Neon Out" because everybody goes all out and gets crazy. This section also loves to chant, so if you are a big fan of yelling and cheering on your team, this will be a great time for you. A bit of a warning though, it might get really hot since football is an outdoor sport. Overall, the football student section is for the energetic and fun football fans out there!

The Basketball Student Section

Now, the basketball student section is very similar to the football student section, but there are a few differences. They both do chants and have themes, but a lot of aspects are different. For one, it's a completely different sport, so if football is not really your thing, you can attend the basketball student section instead! Basketball also has a different pace, so while football can last a long time, basketball is a pretty short game. It's also indoors, so the weather is not as bothersome as it is for football. Altogether, I really like the basketball student section, and it is one of my favorite sports to support!

Miscellaneous Sports Student Section

Now every other sport doesn't really have a designated student section (at least for my school), but that doesn't mean you can't go out and support! Lots of sports like volleyball, soccer, baseball, or softball are very underrated and never get enough support. There are so many talented players on these teams who deserve to feel seen and appreciated. No matter how good or bad they are, coming to a game and cheering for your school is important for you and for your community. You might also find out you really enjoy watching a certain sport or meet someone else who enjoys it just as much as you.

Theater Performances

Another under appreciated afternoon activity is a theater performance! There are so many moving pieces in the theater and so much dedication to it, but it never gets any recognition! If you like music and dance this is the perfect event to attend in the evening. These performances also tend to be super creative and really mesmerizing to watch, so you might discover something new that you like! And I know that if you go and support these wonderful actors, you will meet a whole new community of people and potentially a new group of friends!

Band Performances

Another group that needs to be recognized is the band! It is really hard work to march and play an instrument. They always manage to sound really amazing and make football games all the more exciting. Band performances are super interesting to watch, and more students need to come out and support them. I know that I personally love watching the band perform because they do super complicated choreography while playing a difficult instrument, and make it look absolutely effortless! Overall, I believe it is really important to support our band and the students in band.
