Spots to Visit to Make a Memorable Summer in Union County!

While summer is a great time to rest and prepare for the busy year ahead, it's also the perfect opportunity to get out and explore! Here are a few spots you should check out this summer to make it extra special:
Located off Lancaster Avenue in Downtown Monroe, Alice Jules Coffee House is a cozy café with a charmingly vintage exterior and a welcoming, friendly community. From its wrap-around porch and green roof to its delicious and exciting menu, Alice Jules is the perfect place to stop by and pick up a treat or sit in to study or relax!
Alice Jules Coffee House strives to not only serve high-quality, personalized coffee but also to be involved in the Union County community while making their customers feel like they are a part of a family. They sell many varieties of coffees, drinks, and pastries, including refreshers, mochas, frappes, lattes, decaf coffee, scones, bagels, cookies, and so much more! My personal favorite is their hot chocolate (although it's probably better suited for colder weather), and they have plenty of options for non-coffee drinkers. Additionally, they offer an assortment of art pieces and soaps crafted by local artists for purchase or admiration!
Also located in Downtown Monroe, Backstage Vintage is a boutique with unique pieces from the 20th century for rent or sale. The shop, prominently designed with a pink tiger's-print awning and darling sign, is packed with every vintage item you could dream of. There truly is something there for everyone, and you could spend all day just going through their collection!
Some of the retro items they offer are dresses, suits, ties, scarfs, jewelry, hats, pictures, purses, wallets, jackets, shoes, mirrors, swords, and so much more! You can even rent some of their inventory if you want to wear one of their pieces for an event (or just play dress-up) and want to avoid committing to the full price.
Located at the Museum of the Waxhaws, the Storefront Theatre hosts plays written and directed by local artists. Their talented actors perform without props, costumes, or sets and instead, use their emotions, voices, expressions, and attitudes to spark the audiences' imagination and bring the story to life.
Every season, the theater invites new actors and directors and brings back audience favorites to ensure the group is always evolving. The primary director of the shows at Storefront Theatre, Judy Simpson Cook, is an award-winning playwright who was honored as a playwriting fellow by the NC Arts Council, and her plays have been produced around the nation— so you can be sure you're seeing some high-quality shows! This is a perfect place for a date night or even a family outing.
