Some Words of Wisdom for a New Year

With the new year, comes an end to our long holiday breaks and a start to our new school semesters. With all this, the January gloom can be tough. Here are some words of wisdom to help motivate you and start your new year off on a good foot!

I think, if anything, a new year reminds me of the wonderful processes of creation. As humans, we are constantly re-writing ourselves and our stories. A new year is often seen as a fresh start or a clean slate. With that, I encourage you to give yourself a fresh start this year. Let go of all your past worries, stresses, regrets, etc. and embrace who you are in the present. Just remember that you had to experience all that you went through to get to where you are now. If you are feeling stuck or unhappy with your current phase in life, remember that will not feel this way forever. All things pass do pass in time, no matter how hard or heavy they feel. That is because change is the one constant in life.

And do not worry, you do not have to let things "change" you if you do not want them to. You get to decide what can and cannot change you. If you want to bring about some sort of change in your life, know that you can. You do not just have to wait for change to happen. You have the power to create change. It all starts with one change. One little change eventually leads to several little changes, which all amount to one BIG change. Think about some goals you have for yourself. What small change can you make in your life right now to get yourself one step closer to that goal?

Just as the world is constantly in motion, so are you. Even if you may you feel like you are moving in "forward motion" right now, you are still in motion. As cheesy as it sounds, life is not one perfect, linear path. There is constant forward and backward motion. So, no matter where you are, be proud that you are still "in motion"— meaning that you still get up each day and move from yourself one place to another. That is more than enough!

With all that being said, I ask you to just start, right now, wherever you are. Whatever it is that you want to do, you can do it. Release any doubts or worries that you may have. You are you, and that is all that you need to start. You have already proven that you are more than capable of accomplishing great things. Start right now and you'll be amazed at how far you've come by this time next year.
