Getting into the Mood: A New School Year

Ever get into the weird, nervous, anticipating type of feeling about two weeks before summer break ends? Or maybe start "training" yourself to go to sleep earlier? Personally, I try to get into some sort of routine a week beforehand. Here are three ways I prepare for a new school year!

Increasing the Pace

With age, comes difficulty. It might get harder as the years go on, but I find it important to increase the pace at school. This can mean having more coursework, becoming more social, interacting with the community, or anything that pushes you out of your comfort zone. To achieve this, I reflect on the past school year and think about what I can focus on that will make school more enjoyable and laid back.

Setting and Building off Goals

I believe that everyone, whether consciously or not, sets a goal for how they want their year to go. However, most of the time we either give up, forget, or result in burnout. I try to get one big goal and break it up into three "mini-goals" that will achieve my main one. Additionally, I space each one out, so that I'm not trying to reach every single one at once. I've found that this helps with preventing burnout.

Creating a System

It's important to understand how you work as a student. This includes deciding if you work better at school or home. or maybe if you need to study outside of class. I tend to decide on a pattern I want to keep for the whole year and try to stick with it.

These three points are what help me prepare for a new school year. Think about what you do to prepare for a new school year and develop your own ideas to make this year even better!
