Countdown to the Holidays: My Top 5 Holiday Favorites

It's the most wonderful time of the year! A time that we share and make the our favorite memories-turned-favorite traditions. I am here to share my top five holiday favorites with you!

Decor

I absolutely always look forward to decorating the house for the holidays! My family start by selecting a theme or scheme of colors. We then trim the tree by whatever color scheme we choose. Trimming the tree is always the hardest part of holiday. Between untangling lights and the "Here, hold this" or "Don't drop that ornament!," but we always make it work. After we trim the tree, we sit out our holiday add-ons: door wreaths, ornament and light filled vases, fireplace garland, and any battery operated holiday décor that we can find. I think it is safe to say that we go all out!

Holiday Lights

My family and I have a tradition of going out riding on Christmas Eve to look at all the beautifully lit and decorated homes. I've come to adore and look forward to seeing two famously decorated homes during the holidays: one in the Historic District of Monroe, NC and a once televised home in Indian Trail, NC. We ride for quite some time and, to keep us awake, we blast holiday music!

Music

I am one of those who love holiday music! Judge me if you want, but I can't hear any it because I am too busy listening to the whistle notes from the song of the season: All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey. That has been my favorite holiday song for as long as I can remember! Although that is at the top of my holiday playlist, I do have a few other favorites for the perfect musical holiday line-up. Classic holiday songs song by Nat King Cole (The Christmas Song), Johnny Mathis (It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas), and renditions by talented artist such as Sam Smith (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas), or Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Carols of Bells) are also on the list. Check out a few more of my favorite holiday hits using the video below!

Movie Lineup

After a night of holiday lights joy riding, nothing beats cozying up to a good movie. My favorite holiday movie is probably Home Alone 2. At one point, I watched it everyday during the holidays. What are your favorite holiday movies?

Baking

Who doesn't love baking during the holidays? To be quite honest, I'm not much of a baker but, store bought, oven ready cookies, save the day. Baked chocolate chip cookies are my favorite holiday baking delight. I like them soft with a hint of crunch on the edges. To top it off, get a glass of almond milk, and you are all set! Considering that I love all things Christmas themed, you would think that gingerbread cookies are my favorite. Look below and take a guess at why gingerbread cookies are my least favorite to bake during the holidays!

Now that you've read my top five holiday favorites, I hope that you get some inspiration for the holidays and create your own top five favorites, memories, and traditions for the holiday season!
