Charcuterie Treats: Breakfast Edition

Confession: I am obsessed with charcuterie boards! I think they are cute and convenient - plus, who would turn down a spread of food? In honor of my obsession, I am here to give you the recipe for crafting the perfect morning-time charcuterie board.

Your charcuterie board will include three main cooked foods - mini waffles, eggs, and hash browns - plus other embellishments. Please note, it is best to gather all of your supplies first. However, rather than listing them all at once, I have listed the ingredients, supplies, and utensils under the corresponding recipe. Let's get started!

Mini Waffles

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 Cup of Self-rising Flour

  • 7 0z Almond/Plant-based Milk

  • 4tbs Maple Syrup

  • Cinnamon (as much as you like)

  • Non-stick Cooking Spray

Utensils:

  • Mixing Bowl

  • Mixing Spatula

  • Waffle Maker/Skillet

  • Spatula (If using a skillet)

Instructions:

  1. Place your flour, almond/plant-based milk, maple syrup, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.

  2. Mix your ingredients with your mixing spatula until you create a thick batter and the flour has dissolved.

  3. Plug in or pre-heat your waffle maker and spray non-stick cooking spray in it. If you do not have a waffle maker, simply use a skillet (your waffles will look more like pancakes, but that's okay!).

  4. Pour a small portion of your batter into your waffle maker and close it until your waffle maker tells you that your waffle is ready. Repeat until you make a ton of mini waffles!

  5. If you are using a skillet, pour a small portion of batter in your skillet, flip your waffle until it's golden on both sides, and repeat!

Hash Browns

Ingredients:

  • 2 -3 Golden Potatoes

  • Preferred Seasonings (Salt, Pepper, Onion Powder)

  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Utensils:

  • Potato Peeler/Knife

  • Grater

  • Skillet, Spatula

Instructions:

  1. Rinse and dry your Golden Potatoes.

  2. Peel the skin of your potatoes. If you don't have a potato peeler, you can use a knife, just be very careful!

  3. Grate your freshly peeled potatoes. Please, avoid accidentally grating your thumb - it hurts, and you'll have to start all over.

  4. Spray nonstick cooking spray in your skillet, and place it on medium heat.

  5. Throw your grated potatoes in your skillet, add your preferred seasonings, and flip until golden brown (or crispy) on each side.

Vegan Side Note: This recipe is vegan-friendly!

Eggs

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 Eggs

  • Preferred Seasonings (Salt, Pepper)

  • Nonstick Cooking Spray

Utensils:

  • Small Mixing Bowl

  • Mixing Spatula

  • Skillet

Instructions:

  1. Crack your eggs in your mixing bowl and add your preferred seasonings.

  2. Mix your eggs until they appear fully whisked.

  3. Spray nonstick cooking spray in your skillet, and place it on low - medium heat.

  4. Gently stir, or scramble, your eggs in the skillet until they appear fluffy and the yolk is cooked.

Vegan Side Note: You may find a variety of vegan egg substitutes at your local grocery store.

  • Butter

  • Scallions

  • Cheese

  • Fresh Cut Fruit

Layout

Now that everything is cooked, it's time to lay it out your charcuterie board! The layout of choice is grouped from left to right with embellishments (top left), plate (bottom left), cooked food (starting at the center and work right), beverages (top right), and additional seasonings (bottom right, because I like salty food).

Final Step: EAT!

You worked so hard to prepare the perfect breakfast board. Now, it is time that you indulge in and enjoy as many mini waffles, hash browns, and eggs as your stomach can take!
