Cleaning your room isn't just something your parents tell you to do because they want to get on your nerves, they tell you that because its for your own good. Or so we've heard... Well, here's why you really should clean your own room without having to be asked.

Cleaning your room can lead to an increase in productivity. Yes, for many people, decluttering their life makes them more productive, however, for some people, some organized chaos can give them some creative inspiration. But notice I said some clutter. The more clutter in your life the more you will find yourself distracted. According to a study done by the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, clutter in your life can ultimately lead to many distractions because every stimuli in your view is competing for your attention.

Cleaning your room can eliminate distractions. Say you walk into your room, planning on finishing that English assignment that's due tomorrow. You sit down get your computer out and then, why is there a suitcase out in the middle of the room. You realize you need to pack for your vacation this weekend and then, ooh, is that candy I kind of want to... Wait, you were supposed to be doing your homework. That's what happens, but why? Well, when there's multiple different stimuli in your view then all of them will be competing for neural representation, in the end giving your brain too many different things at once. So cleaning your room can get rid of all of these distractions which can also reduce procrastination.

Cleaning your room can also get rid of unnecessary stress. Clutter can lead to stress and anxiety, so by decluttering your room you're essentially clearing out any extra stress that you might have accumulated. In the end, cleaning your room can even improve your overall mood.

In conclusion, Cleaning your room can lead to multiple benefits including increased productivity, less distractions, which leads to less procrastination and better time management skills, and decreased stress. So next time your room is messy, think about cleaning it before you are asked, because this is for you.
