Josiah Queen, winner of the 2024 New Artist of the Year (Dove Awards), is becoming a rising icon in the Christian music industry. Raised by two ministers, Queen has been a Christian for most of his life and has been writing and releasing songs since 2020. He is part of a movement of Contemporary Christian music along with several other award-winning artists such as Brandon Lake, Forrest Frank, and Leana Crawford. Queen’s music combines his deep faith with a style similar to folk storytelling.

THE PRODIGAL contains many of Queen’s first songs, as well as several collaborations such as “Alone with You” with Jervis Campbell (one of my all-time favorite songs!) and “Love You to Death” with Strings & Heart. This album also contains two of the songs that originally drew attention to him, “The Prodigal” and “I am Barabbas”. Queen comes from a place of humility in this album, asking for a deeper faith in several of the songs, such as “Fishes and Loaves”. This song is told from the perspective of the child who gave Jesus the fishes and loaves and talks about doubting His plans but giving Him your heart and faith. All in all, this is a powerful album about God’s power.

Josiah Queen also has several amazing singles that have exemplified his faith. His collaboration with Brandon Lake on “Can’t Steal My Joy” talks about how, since the world can’t give the ultimate joy and peace (God does), it doesn’t have the power to take those away. “Two Wooden Beams” talks about His love for us and the sacrifice Jesus made to save us from ourselves. Queen also has a new album, MT. ZION, coming out track by track, with several hits already having been released.
I hope you will consider listening to Josiah Queen and other Christian music! It’s an awesome alternative if you've been convicted of cursing or secular music. There’s a lot more than hymns out in the Christian world of music!
