I can never find a bookmark to mark my page while I'm reading, so I’ll usually use something random like a sticky note or a pencil. Why not make something cute and practical to use instead?

To start get an 8cm by 12cm rectangle of thick paper or card stock.

Then fold it in half hotdog style, then unfold it and rotate it so the shorter side is at the top. Next, fold the short sides together it should look like this.

ree

Then fold the bottom corners into the center to make triangles.

ree

Now comes the second most confusing part, I made a few mistakes before getting this part right. Start by folding the left triangle back down.

ree

Hold the right triangle with one hand and fold the other open triangle back and inwards.

ree

Make sure it's fully folded in like this. Afterward, repeat on the right side.

ree

Your butterfly should now look like this. I know this seems like a lot of steps but we’re almost there!

ree

In the middle of your butterfly, you should see a fold line, we are going to fold either side of the paper together on the front only (it might sound a little confusing).

ree

Then rotate the paper to the back side and repeat the same thing.

ree

Now, this is the most difficult part, I messed up a few butterflies before I understood what I was doing, but don’t worry! You got this!

At the top of your butterfly, you should see a gap between the folds in the paper, starting with the left side, for the corner inward on itself like before but bolder. Press down more and the first wing is done!

ree

Repeat for the other wing and now your butterfly is finished!

ree

You can keep it as it is or color it and decorate it in any way you want! or even change the size so it fits different book pages. I hope this was a fun project to do!
