Best Festive Movies for Winter Break

There's no better way to get into the holiday spirit than snuggling up on the couch with a festive movie! Here are my favorite holiday flims!


1) Elf

Buddy the Elf was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa's elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn't fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York in search of his real father. Buddy believes Walter Hobbs, a cynical businessman, is his father. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to form a relationship with Buddy as chaos ensues.


2) Miracle on 34th Street

An old man going named Kris Kringle fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy's annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Kringle proves to be such a hit that he is soon appearing regularly at the chain's main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, there is a court case to determine his mental health and his authenticity.




3) The Nightmare Before Christmas

Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king, has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the "real world." When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over his role.



4) National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Clark Griswold wants to have a perfect family Christmas, so he pesters his wife, Ellen, and his children as he tries to make sure everything is in order, including the tree and house decorations. However, things go sour fast. His cousin, Eddie, and his family show up unplanned and leave their RV on the Griswold property. Even worse, Clark's employer takes away the holiday bonus he needs.



5) A Christmas Story

Ralphie Parker spends most of his time dodging a bully and dreaming of his ideal Christmas gift, a "Red Ryder air rifle." Frequently at odds with his cranky dad, Ralphie struggles to make it to Christmas Day with his his hopes still intact.



6) Scrooged

Based on "Christmas Carol," Frank Cross is an extremely successful TV executive whose cold nature has driven away the love of his life, Claire Phillips. However, after firing a staff member, Eliot Loudermilk, on Christmas Eve, Frank is visited by a series of ghosts who give him a chance to right the wrongs of his past.



7) Christmas With the Kranks

Finally alone for the holidays, Luther and Nora Krank plan to re-write their Christmas traditions and take a cruise in the Caribbean instead. This doesn't sit well with their Christmas-obsessed neighbors Vic Frohmeyer and Walt Scheel. The Kranks soon find themselves social outcasts because of their lack of Christmas spirit.



8) Christmas Chronicles

Kate and Teddy Pierce are siblings who devise a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes poorly, the kids join forces with Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it's too late.



9) The Year Without a Santa Claus (Remake)

Santa decides not to make his annual Christmas journey because he feels unwanted. Elves Jingle and Jangle scour the world to find people who still believe, hoping to convince Santa to make his trip anyway. Santa eventually sees evidence that people do still believe. Finally, a little girl's touching letter prompts him to pack up the sleigh and head out on his annual trek.



10) Frosty the Snowman

A group of friends place a magical hat on a snowman. This causes Frosty the Snowman to come alive. However, a greedy magician wants to steal his magic hat. Frosty and his friends must continue to escape the magician to keep Frosty alive.
